McCrae's 1st Birthday

McCrae is ONE! I can't believe it. We made it a whole year! We were sure to take the camera in his room the morning of his birthday. What a happy boy. We had a small party with our family that evening and invited everyone to write a birthday message. I wish I had a picture of the "after"...there were some pretty cute pictures and messages.
My mom helped me make his cake. I don't know how she always made us such fancy cakes. I thought this one might do me in!
It was a great day and it was fun to have our family there to celebrate. I always swore I would never make a big fuss about a one-year-old's birthday, but I have to say it is quite an accomplishment for first-time parents to make it to one year without going crazy...

Conner and I gave him a vacuum and a new book. He hasn't started walking quite yet but he has been standing for weeks! It should be any day now-then vacuuming will be HIS job.
We love McCrae so much. I still get emotional when I think about how Heavenly Father blessed us with such an incredible gift. When I say my prayers at night, I oftentimes find myself in tears feeling so humbled by the chance that I have here on Earth to be McCrae's mother. I only hope that I can teach him, and that he will embrace, correct principles so that we will be worthy to return to our Father in Heaven as an eternal family. Here's to another year!

At 12 months, McCrae loves to play pat-a-cake. He usually skips to the "throw it in the oven" part a little prematurely, but his eyes sure light up with anyone who is willing to play. He will walk along furniture and has taken just one step, but he has yet to walk on his own. He will squat and stand and is very sturdy but if he has to get somewhere, he drops back down to his knees. He is enjoying animals and is really good at making a horse sound with his lips. He loves to visit Papa's horses and feed them apple nuggets. He understands when something is "HOT" and says HOT in a loud whisper any time he sees anything on the stove. At dinner one night, we were praying on the meal and looked over to see McCrae's fingers interlocked ready for the prayer. It was awesome. We didn't even teach him how to do it! (And he has done it every prayer since). He has started drinking from a sippy cup and only has a bottle if he wakes up in the middle of the night. He has decided he is too big for his carseat and throws a fit when we put him in it-he arches his back and screams...he's a pretty strong little guy too! For my birthday, Conner got me a baby seat to hook on the back of my bike. We have all had so much fun riding our bikes together-Newport style. We are enjoying McCrae so much and love watching him learn new things every day.
